Voyager 1

The most distant human-made object. Crossed the heliopause into interstellar space in 2012 and still sends data home on about 4 watts.

Voyager 2

The only spacecraft to visit Uranus and Neptune. Entered interstellar space in 2018; NASA is switching instruments off one by one to stretch its power.

New Horizons

Gave us the first close-up look at Pluto, then flew past Arrokoth, the most distant object ever explored. Now surveying the outer heliosphere and Kuiper Belt.

Europa Clipper

NASA's largest planetary spacecraft, bound for Jupiter's ice-covered moon Europa to find out whether its hidden ocean could support life.

BepiColombo

Two orbiters (ESA's MPO and JAXA's Mio) travelling together to Mercury after nine planetary flybys.

Hera

Europe's planetary-defence mission, surveying the asteroid moon Dimorphos that NASA's DART spacecraft deliberately crashed into in 2022.

Psyche

Heading to a metal-rich asteroid that may be the exposed core of an early planet, using electric Hall-effect thrusters.

Lucy

The first mission to Jupiter's Trojan asteroids, visiting a record number of asteroids over 12 years.

OSIRIS-APEX

Formerly OSIRIS-REx, which returned asteroid Bennu samples to Earth in 2023. Now headed to Apophis, which passes very close to Earth in 2029.

Parker Solar Probe

The fastest object ever built, repeatedly diving to 6.1 million km from the Sun's surface to sample the solar wind at its source.

James Webb Space Telescope

The largest space telescope, orbiting the second Lagrange point 1.5 million km from Earth and seeing the first galaxies in infrared.

Curiosity rover

Climbing Mount Sharp in Gale Crater, reading billions of years of Martian climate history in its rock layers.

Perseverance rover

Exploring an ancient river delta in Jezero Crater and sealing rock samples in tubes for a possible future return to Earth.

Artemis (Orion)

NASA's program to return people to the Moon. Artemis II flew four astronauts around the Moon in April 2026, the first crew beyond low Earth orbit since 1972.

About the deep-space mission tracker

Where humanity's deep-space spacecraft are today: distances from Earth and the Sun for JWST, Voyager 1 and 2, Europa Clipper, Parker Solar Probe, Psyche, Lucy, BepiColombo, Hera and the Mars rovers, with mission timelines and upcoming milestones.

How far away is Voyager 1?
Over 25 billion km and still increasing by about 1.5 billion km a year. In late 2026 it reaches one light-day from Earth.
Where does the position data come from?
Published spacecraft trajectories refreshed daily.

Data may be delayed. Not financial advice.
